How to Sell Furniture Online in Pakistan (Dimensions, Photos and Transport)

How to Sell Furniture Online in Pakistan (Dimensions, Photos and Transport)

Furniture is one of the more awkward things to sell online. It is heavy, it does not fit in a car, photographs rarely convey scale, and the buyer usually has to arrange transport before they can commit.

Those frictions are exactly why well-handled furniture listings sell quickly while others sit for months. Most of the difference comes down to giving buyers the information they need to make a decision without a second visit.

Key takeaways

  • Dimensions are essential. More furniture sales fail over size than price.
  • State the material honestly — solid wood, MDF, particle board, veneer.
  • Be explicit about transport from the start. It is the biggest friction point.
  • Photograph in a real room so buyers can judge scale.
  • Wedding season lifts demand noticeably — time your listing.
  • Sets sell better together, but price the parts separately if they linger.

Dimensions decide the sale

This is the single most important thing in a furniture listing and the most commonly missing.

A buyer needs to know whether it fits — through their door, up their stairs, in the space they have. Without measurements they either message to ask, or more often simply move on to a listing that has them.

Include for every itemLength, width and height in inches or feet · For beds: the standard size (single, double, queen, king) · For wardrobes: depth as well, since it determines whether it fits a corridor · For sofas: seat count and overall length · For tables: seating capacity

Measure once, properly, and put it in the description. A tape measure and two minutes eliminates the most common reason furniture listings fail. It also filters out buyers for whom it was never going to fit, saving both of you a wasted meeting.

Be honest about material

Material is the second thing buyers ask, and the one sellers most often overstate.

MaterialWhat buyers understand by it
Solid woodSheesham, oak, deodar. Durable, heavy, holds value best. Commands a real premium.
VeneerThin real-wood surface over a manufactured core. Looks good, moderate durability.
MDFEngineered board. Smooth finish, but poor with moisture and difficult to repair.
Particle boardLowest cost. Does not survive repeated disassembly well.
Metal / wrought ironDurable, common in outdoor and bed frames.

Describing MDF as solid wood is not a clever selling tactic — buyers check by looking at the edges and by weight, and being caught out ends the sale entirely. If you are unsure, describe what you can see honestly: “wooden finish, not sure of the exact type” is far better than a wrong claim.

Photographing furniture

  • Shoot in a real room, so buyers can judge scale against a door, window or other furniture.
  • Clear the clutter around and on top of it.
  • Use daylight. Furniture photographed under a yellow bulb looks a completely different colour, and buyers feel misled when they see it.
  • Shoot every side, including the back if it will be visible in use.
  • Close up on the material and finish so texture is visible.
  • Photograph joints, legs and drawer runners — these show construction quality and wear.
  • Show the damage. Scratches, water marks, chipped veneer, loose joints.
  • Open the drawers and doors in at least one photo.

Deal with transport upfront

This is the friction that kills furniture sales, and addressing it directly in the listing removes most of it.

State plainly which applies:

  • “Buyer arranges pickup” — the most common, and buyers expect it
  • “Can help load” — a small addition that genuinely reassures
  • “Delivery available within [area] at extra cost” — widens your buyer pool considerably
  • “Dismantles for transport” — important for wardrobes and beds, and a significant selling point
  • “Ground floor, easy access” or “third floor, no lift” — buyers need to know before arranging labour

Mention access honestly. A buyer who arrives with a Suzuki pickup and two men, only to find a wardrobe on the third floor with no lift and no dismantling possible, will walk away — and reasonably so. Saying it upfront costs you some enquiries and saves you far more wasted afternoons.

Sets versus individual pieces

Furniture is often bought as a set and then sold as one, but that is not always the right decision.

Sell as a set whenThe pieces match and were bought together · It is a dining or bedroom set with obvious cohesion · The market for the full set is active (wedding season)
Split whenThe set has been sitting unsold for weeks · Only one piece is in demand · The total price is high enough to deter most buyers · Pieces are mismatched or from different sets

A common pattern: list as a set first at a fair price, and if there is no movement after two or three weeks, relist the pieces individually. The total often comes to more, though it takes longer.

Timing matters more than in most categories

Furniture demand in Pakistan is strongly seasonal.

  • Wedding season is the peak. Bedroom sets, dining sets, sofas and dressing tables all move faster and at better prices.
  • Before Eid sees a general lift as households refresh.
  • Start of the academic year raises demand for study tables, chairs and hostel furniture.
  • Moving season in any city produces both buyers and sellers — more competition, but more demand.

If you are not in a hurry, listing three to four weeks ahead of a peak is worth real money.

Pricing furniture

  • Solid wood holds value far better than engineered board. A ten-year-old sheesham bed can still command a serious price; a ten-year-old particle-board wardrobe often cannot.
  • Condition matters more than age for good-quality wood.
  • Deduct for damage that is visible in normal use, less for damage on hidden surfaces.
  • Custom-made furniture is worth less on resale than it cost, because it was made to someone else’s taste and dimensions.
  • Check comparable listings for the same material and size before setting a number.

Preparing it for sale

  • Clean thoroughly — dust, polish wood, vacuum upholstery. This changes perceived value more than anything else you can do.
  • Tighten loose joints and handles. A wobbly chair suggests the whole set is tired.
  • Touch up minor scratches on wood with a matching polish or wax.
  • Do not attempt major refinishing — you rarely recover the cost, and a poor refinish reduces value.
  • Empty everything. Buyers open drawers.

Frequently asked questions

Should I offer delivery? If you can, yes — it widens your buyer pool significantly and you can charge for it. If not, say so clearly upfront.
How do I price second-hand furniture?Start from what comparable used pieces of the same material and size are listed at. Solid wood holds value; engineered board does not.
Is it worth repairing before selling?Fix cheap, visible things — loose joints, missing handles, minor scratches. Avoid expensive refinishing.
Should I let buyers visit my home?Furniture often requires it. Have someone else present, arrange viewings in daylight, and confirm the buyer’s details beforehand through the platform.
What if the buyer wants only part of a set?Your choice. Splitting can leave the remainder harder to sell, so price the individual piece accordingly.
How long should furniture take to sell?Longer than electronics — often two to six weeks. Good photos, dimensions and clear transport terms shorten it considerably.

In short

Measure it and put the dimensions in the description. Be honest about the material. Photograph it in a real room, in daylight, from every side, including the damage. Say clearly who arranges transport and what the access is like. And list ahead of wedding season if you can wait.
