Writing Classified Ad Titles That Get Clicks (Formula and Examples)

Most people write a classified ad title in about four seconds. “iPhone for sale”. “Sofa set”. “Car urgent sale”. Then they wonder why the enquiries are thin, and why the ones that arrive are all asking questions the title should have answered.
Your title is the only thing every single person sees. It appears in search results, in category listings, in notifications. The photo earns the glance; the title earns the tap. And unlike the photo, it is also what search engines and the app’s own search use to decide whether to show your ad at all.
This guide gives you a formula, the words that help, the words that hurt, and worked examples across the categories Pakistani sellers use most.
Key takeaways
- Use the formula: Brand + Model + Key Spec + Condition + Location.
- Write the words buyers actually search for, not vague descriptions.
- Numbers earn trust — storage, engine size, year, size, capacity.
- Skip the filler. “Urgent”, “10/10”, “just buy and drive” appear on nearly every ad and mean nothing.
- Never use ALL CAPS or rows of exclamation marks. They read as desperate.
- Front-load the important words — titles get cut off on small screens.
The formula
Nearly every strong classified title follows the same underlying structure. Not every element applies to every item, but the order does.
Brand + Model + Key Spec + Condition + Location
Each element answers a question the buyer would otherwise have to ask, and each one is a term someone might actually type into the search box.
Compare a weak title with a strong one:
| Weak | Strong |
|---|---|
| iPhone for sale | iPhone 13 Pro 256GB PTA Approved — Karachi |
| Car urgent sale | Toyota Corolla GLi 2018 Automatic 80,000km — Lahore |
| Sofa set | 7 Seater L-Shape Sofa Set Solid Wood — Islamabad |
| Fridge for sale | Dawlance 14 CFT Inverter Refrigerator — Rawalpindi |
| Bike good condition | Honda CD 70 2021 First Owner 12,000km — Faisalabad |
| Flat for rent | 2 Bed DD Flat for Rent — Gulshan-e-Iqbal Block 10 |
The strong versions are not cleverer. They simply contain the information a buyer needs to decide whether to tap — and the exact words they were searching for.
Write what people search, not what you would say
This is the mental shift that matters most. You know what you are selling, so you write a description. A buyer does not know your item exists, so they type a query.
Someone looking for a phone does not search “selling my mobile”. They search “iPhone 13 Pro Max 256GB”. Someone looking for a car searches “Corolla GLi 2018 automatic”, not “family car in good condition”.
A quick test: before you publish, type your own title into the app’s search box. Would your ad be a sensible result for that query? Now type what you think a buyer would search. Does your title contain those words? If not, rewrite it.
Include the alternatives people use
Pakistani buyers often search using more than one term for the same thing. Where it fits naturally, cover the common variants:
- Model numbers and common names — “Suzuki Mehran VX” rather than just “Mehran”
- Capacity in the unit buyers use — CFT for fridges, tons for ACs, cc for bikes
- The area name buyers know, not only the formal one
Do not stuff the title with every possible keyword. A title crammed with terms reads as spam and gets ignored. One clean, informative line beats a list.
Numbers do the heavy lifting
Specific numbers are the fastest way to signal that you know your item and are not hiding anything.
| Category | Numbers that matter |
|---|---|
| Mobiles | Storage (128GB), RAM, model year, battery health |
| Cars | Model year, mileage, engine capacity, number of owners |
| Bikes | cc, model year, mileage |
| Property | Bedrooms, square yards or marla, floor number |
| Appliances | CFT, tons, litres, wattage |
| Furniture | Number of seats, dimensions, material |
| Laptops | Processor generation, RAM, SSD size, screen size |
Words that help, words that hurt
Two of these deserve a specific warning.
“Urgent” tells buyers you are under pressure to sell, which is an open invitation to lowball you. If you genuinely need a quick sale, price it accordingly rather than announcing your weakness in the title.
“Serious buyers only” and “no time wasters” read as hostile before any conversation has started. They do not deter time wasters, who are not reading carefully anyway, but they do put off polite buyers.
Formatting rules
- Front-load the essentials. Titles are truncated on small screens. Brand and model belong in the first few words, not after a long preamble.
- Use normal capitalisation. ALL CAPS reads as shouting and is harder to scan.
- One exclamation mark at most, and preferably none.
- No emoji rows. They push real information out of the visible part of the title.
- Do not put the price in the title. There is a price field for that, and repeating it wastes characters.
- Do not put your phone number in the title. Most platforms remove it, and it looks unprofessional.
- Keep it to roughly 60 to 70 characters where you can, so it displays in full.

Common mistakes
| Mistake | Why it costs you |
|---|---|
| Title too vague | Never appears in specific searches, which is where buying intent lives |
| Keyword stuffing | Reads as spam; buyers scroll past |
| ALL CAPS | Harder to read, feels aggressive |
| Price in the title | Wastes characters; the price field already shows it |
| Wrong category words | Ad surfaces for the wrong searches and gets ignored |
| Misspelt brand names | Ad becomes invisible to anyone searching the correct spelling |
| “Urgent” or “negotiable” | Invites lowball offers before conversation starts |
Check your spelling, especially brand names. Search matches text. If you write “Samsang” or “Corrola”, your ad simply will not appear for the thousands of people searching the correct spelling. This is the single most avoidable reason a good listing gets no views.
Frequently asked questions
In short
Brand, model, key spec, condition, location. Real numbers instead of adjectives. The words buyers type, not the words you would use in conversation. No shouting, no filler, no price, no phone number.
It takes an extra thirty seconds, and it is the difference between an ad that gets found and one that quietly sits there.
